Here are some links to flag companies I recommend. Visit their website and don’t forget to tell them who sent you!
The Flag Guys – the owner is very nice and helpful and they have that old-fashion nice customer service. Their site has some neat flags and a large historic line. They also have flag accessories and poles. Not to be missed. If you order anything from then, let Al know who sent you.
CRW Flags - they have one of the largest historic flag inventory around and have some unique and hard to find flags. They also have very good prices and their quality is excellent. I have ordered from them in the past and will continue to do so in the future.
Gettysburg Flag Works - another excellent company that makes their own flags here in the US. Good quality, good prices, and a good deal of variety of flags!
Prestige Flag - if you are looking for a custom flag, then this is the company you want making them for you. This is the manufacturer we went to to have our White Star Line flags made and we are happy we did. Outstanding customer service and excellent quality flags made here in the US. Prices are very competitive as well. Not sure about their quality? They will have a sample of your design made up and mailed to you. Let Krista know we sent you.
Humphry's Flag Company - located across the street from the Betsy Ross House in Philadelphia. This company has been around since the early 1800s and started making sails for ships. Although they do not have a large web presence, they are a must stop if you are in the Philadelphia area. Their store has a neat collection of old and unique flags. They also make custom flags and banners. Very good quality and customer service. They make flags for us so let them know how you found them.
Puffin Flags - this company is located in the UK and they make very reasonable flags by hand in the applique version. Their flags are designed for marine use and are made to last. Their woven polyester flags are NOT the same material as those really cheap polyester flags you can almost see through. Check out their pictures to see their quality. It takes a little bit of time to have them made and shipped from Europe but it's worth it. easyflags.uk
TME Flags - they specialize in custom digital printed flags. You can even get just one flag made up at a time. They also produce custom lapel flag pins and small 4" x 6" table top flags. Be sure to check them out if you need anything flag related customized.
Great flag related websites:
Flags of the World - a great website devoted to vexillology (the study of flags). Here you can read about flags and view images of flags of countries, organizations, states, territories, districts and cities, both past and present.
North American Vexillological Association – if you like flags or vexillology then you need to join this organization. They produce great newsletters and studies and are an excellent source of information. They also have an unofficial Facebook site as well.
The Flag Institute - the largest flag organization in the world and the national vexillological organization of the United Kingdom. They publish an excellent magizine called "Flagmaster".
The International Code of Signals – signal flags and pennants used to communicate between ships at sea. If you ever wondered what those flags mean (or wanted to make sure you don't send the wrong signal), this is the book/website for you.
NTP 13(B)- The primary rules and regulations manual for the display of flags, pennants, and customs at sea. Used by the Navy, Coast Guard, and Marine Corps.
The U.S. Flag Code - guidelines for the display and flying of the United States Flag. The code is not law, however, and citizens are asked to follow this code in order to show respect for the symbol of our country.
Flag Etiquette - a great website by Gettysburg Flag Works that describes the etiquette of the U.S. Flag. They also include a lot of useful and interesting links.
Maritime & History Links
2nd PA Reg't & 43rd Reg't of Foot - a recreated living history group dedicated to bringing the Revolutionary War to life through education and demonstrations. This unit does both the American side (2nd Pennsylvania Regiment) and British side (43rd Regiment of Foot). Probably one of the best groups out there. We are honored to reproduce their historic flags.
SS United States Conservancy - save the SS United States!
Titanic Historic Society – if you have an interest in the RMS TITANIC, White Star Line, or liners in general we encourage you to join this prestigious society. Support of them also goes to preserve TITANIC artifacts and keep the story of this ship alive.
RMS Titanic, Inc. - the company with official salvage rights to the RMS TITANIC. They put on several exhibits around the country showcasing actual objects recovered from the wreck site. They also have a great online store with some reproduction items such as plates, bowls, and other china. You often see these objects on eBay being overpriced and claimed as "hard to find". They also have the popular 3rd Class blanket too!
The Art of Ken Marshall - Ken is the premier painter of the TITANIC and is often considered an expert in the ship, appearing in numerous TV programs and books. Check out his site to see his paintings. You can purchase prints and other items on his commercial website here (Transatlanticdesigns.com).
American Merchant Marine at War - one of the best websites devoted to the U.S. Merchant Marine. They have some great content, stories, pictures, and historical information.
Our colleges:
U.S. Merchant Marine Academy – one of the federal service academies devoted to producing officers for the American merchant shipping industry and officers in the military branches. A best kept secret located in Kings Point, NY.
New York Maritime College – one of the six state maritime schools instructing maritime officers. Part of the State University of New York system, they award a bachelors degree along with an unlimited merchant officer license. By the way, there are also state run schools in: Maine, Massachusetts, Great Lakes, Texas, and California.
