Hello! I'm a military husband and veteran myself. I run this website in my free time for fun. I’m a vexillologist: a fancy word for someone who studies and researches flags. Flags are an interesting part of our history. It is in studying our flags that we can study our background, beliefs, and find out who we are as a people. It is hoped that those who look through my website and blog will come to look at a flag differently. Perhaps you will question why a certain design, color, or symbol was chosen by the people the flag represents. This is not, nor is it intended to be, the single source for everything flags. It is simply one part of a growing community of vexillologists. So, read a little and click through my links. View my blog on Facebook and join the discussion. And, if you are so inclined, purchase a flag from me as well.
But, this is not a flag store. There are so many stores out in the world that I can’t ever hope to compete and really, I don’t want to. I just want to bring some great historic designs back to life and at a price that is reasonable for us all. I do what is probably best termed “flag sharing”. If one person wants to produce a custom flag, it can be quite expensive. But, if a few people come together who want the same design, you can bring the price down. That is what I do. I find a great design and have a few flags made up. Then, I post them on my Ebay site to sell to others. There really is not much profit in this and most of the mark up goes to packaging, shipping, this website, and other necessary administrative costs.
The idea started in the beginning of 2012 with the 100th anniversary of the maiden voyage and sinking of the RMS TITANIC. I tried to find a good supply of White Star Line flags to fly in her honor but was unable to find any. I was a bit surprised that no flag manufacturers were producing them. I found some websites out on the internet but their prices were high and shipping fees were through the roof. So, I decided that if I were looking for some flags, so too were others.
I was not trying to make money off a tragedy; I viewed this as a way to raise awareness of the lives lost on that cold April night over 100 years ago. I would love to see a wave of White Star Line flags flying every year in April so that we never forget. But, it’s not just for the TITANIC. The White Star Line was one of the great shipping lines in history. One of my first relatives to move to the United States came to New York on the RMS CELTIC, part of the White Star Line, so I have a special connection to the shipping line. I also have a relative that served as a captain of a ship in the Cunard Line; a shipping company that merged with the White Star Line.
In addition to White Star Line flags, I also try to bring some other great historic flags back to life. See the section on “Our Flags” to view the latest designs. If you have any suggestions, please let me know and if I have enough interest I can add it to my list.
I don’t do all the packaging, processing, and mailing of flags by myself though. I have help (my one employee) from our 11 year old husky-shepard mix dog. She handles most of our communication and shipping operation. This keeps our overhead down and we pass these savings on to you.
